All player progress is saved on a server, which means the game is essentially an MMO. Unfortunately, cross-play and cross-progression come at a somewhat hefty price in Diablo 4. Just know that the game only supports two-player couch co-op at this time. It’s one of the many ways Diablo 4 offers surprisingly generous multiplayer options.
You can join each other’s adventures remotely via cross-play, but if you go over to visit your friend’s house, you can also log into your account from their PS5 and continue together from where you left off.

Where things get really interesting is when you start to explore your co-op options. You probably won’t be able to tell their gaming platform of origin unless you look real carefully. Just invite other players from your friends list or clan to your group as normal, and they will seamlessly join your team. To participate in cross-play, you don’t have to do anything special. The former will let you team up with players on other platforms, while the latter will allow you to swap between PC and console versions and keep your character and loot. But can each gaming ecosystem cooperate with others, and can players double (or triple) dip without losing progress?
